Our Philosophy

A Community of Learners.”

At Tots on the Rock, tamariki are our primary focus and we recognize that each child is individual and unique. We believe in providing an environment that is secure, caring and nurturing whilst also stimulating. We value and encourage open communication with whānau and provide opportunities for ‘whānau voice’ within our curriculum.

We are a centre that is rich in diversity and believe that all tamariki should have equitable opportunities where differences are embraced and social and emotional well-being is nurtured. We aim to provide an environment that weaves the 3 principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi being, Partnership, Participation and Protection, which not only embraces, but, celebrates the biculturalism of Aotearoa and the multiculturalism of the Waiheke community.

Our practice reflects the principles of Te Whāriki with a focus on respect, empowerment, trust, and holistic teaching and learning. Our value for partnerships and relationships with families, embraces and values tuakana/teina within our centre culture.

We strive to promote an environment that supports lifelong learning and the acquisition of skills, knowledge and values so each tamariki can become capable, confident, and socially competent members of the 21st century.

Our Kaitiakitanga supports our vision for sustainable practices as we feel tamariki at Tots are entitled to the healthiest environment possible, and that we have a social conscience and responsibility to educate our children about the importance of where we live, and the protection of our environment.

We collaborate with children and whanau, and the wider community of Waiheke, where we celebrate all parties as respected reciprocal learners and teachers to create a sense of ako: “A Community of Learners.”
